Murray Capital

Richard joined Murray & Company in 2005 and has been a Director in the investment banking division from 2008 until the establishment of Murray Capital. During this period he has undertaken a number of acquisitions, divestments and capital raisings for New Zealand and Australian mid-market companies. He also led a number of long term strategic advisory mandates, providing input and advice at both management and board level to clients. In addition, Richard led Murray & Company's two principal investment transactions to date.

Prior to joining Murray & Company, Richard worked for eight years at Salomon Brothers and Citigroup in London where he gained significant experience across the investment banking sphere. He joined Salomon Brothers in 1997 as an accountant. He then spent time in equity research and finally in the global loan portfolio management team as a credit analyst. In this role he was responsible for Citigroup credit coverage of prominent European corporate clients such as Siemens, Philips, Lafarge, Infineon, Telewest, Holcim, Heidelberg Cement, OTE, France Telecom and Cable & Wireless.

At Citigroup Richard led the credit team on the restructuring and GBP 1.8bn refinancing of Telewest, which resulted in debt reduction from GBP 3.8bn to GBP 1.8bn, with subordinated bondholders converting into 98.5% of the company's equity.

His experience across both the equity and credit sides of investment banking provides Richard with an in-depth understanding of value drivers, capital structuring and business fundamentals.

Richard attended the University of Otago in Dunedin (New Zealand) where he completed a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), a Diploma for Graduates (Marketing) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Commerce (awarded with credit).

Richard is a member of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand Inc. He was approved by the UK Financial Services Authority as a Securities and Financial Derivatives Representative in 2000.

Richard is also a member of the St George's Hospital Society.
